Our Program

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology (ACB) is an essential part of the teaching and research mission of Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) at East Carolina University (ECU). We are training the next generation of physicians, physical therapists, physician assistants and nurses in gross anatomy, histology and neuroscience. Further, we educate Master’s- and PhD-level graduate students to become the next generation of leaders in biomedical research. Our current research focus is in epithelial stem cell biology, reproductive biology and neurobiology, as well as genetic and acquired diseases intersecting with these research areas.

Our research is largely driven by graduate students. Consequently, our students have a close mentoring relationship with ACB faculty. Our department represents a vibrant research and teaching community, with faculty dedicated to educating a diverse group of learners and budding biomedical researchers.
